Zahery Per is a lay Catholic journalist from the Mingendi area of Simbu Province, Papua New Guinea, a stronghold of the Catholic Church in the province. He is married and has five children. He attended St. Joseph’s Primary School in Mingende and Kondiu Rosary Secondary School before studying at a teachers college and joining the Papua New Guinea Department of Education. He later pursued further training in communication and journalism and joined The National, a daily newspaper in Papua New Guinea, where he has worked for more than 20 years.
Papua New Guinea’s six-month gun amnesty ended with limited success, as citizens and local leaders hesitate to surrender firearms amid persistent lawlessness, tribal violence, and weak state protection.
Join the remarkable Global Catholic journey
Global Catholic is proud to be independent—editorially, politically, ideologically and financially.
But independence comes at a cost. Without patron support, we depend entirely on readers and friends like you.
To sustain and grow Global Catholic, we need to raise US$250,000.
